On this episode, we dive in the family-friendly Amblin film Harry and the Hendersons, and make it way too family-unfriendly. But join us as we discuss how we'd deal with a dead Bigfoot and ask the big question: can I marry Bigfoot?!
Wow. I am ready. Regan or break. Who are these guys? Responding.
SPEAKER_00All right. I'm going down anyway.
SPEAKER_05Still smells the same, that's for sure. Well a little fartier and dustier, but she looked him so much. Hey, hello? Oh hey.
SPEAKER_03Hey, Greg. Look you showed up.
SPEAKER_01Oh my God.
SPEAKER_03Um hi hi Eric.
SPEAKER_01Fancy seeing you here.
SPEAKER_03I've been texting you for like the last 45 minutes as I was walking through the woods. No one's responding. Services. Oh, it's so bad down here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I saw the text. Uh, we were in the middle of a movie. I don't want to disrespect the film. Well, also, I was gonna invite you to come here, and you're already here. What how long have you been here? Oh, uh days? Uh, yeah, it's been like I don't know. Well, I it was six days for Greg, and I think four for me. I don't know, dude. I was so tired being back up above ground, and I just want a little vacation, you know? Completely rude. What the hell? Are you aware of how hard it is to work now?
SPEAKER_03It's so so hard. I am.
SPEAKER_02I I think what happened, Greg came down here, and I don't you'll have to explain why, Greg. I don't know why, but I came down when Greg texted me asking me for chicken fingers, and I said, Yes, sir, and I brought him chicken fingers.
SPEAKER_01Well, that makes sense. But yeah, okay. I came down because literally nothing is good up there. And um, I I missed this. I said the day we got out, I was like, I need to go back.
SPEAKER_04I need to go back. I gotta admit, I I I needed a break. I was like, I gotta watch a movie. It's been too long with my boys with the movie hole.
SPEAKER_02It has like a gravity, you know? It has a pool. It pulled us back in. Look at all three of us back here. Sit down on the couch, bud.
SPEAKER_05All right, I like what you're done with the place. You you cleared out um old old mama's stuff and the couch back and the TV setup. It's just like old times, yeah, man.
SPEAKER_02All right, just pop right down there. Here's a beer. Enjoy that, sir.
SPEAKER_05Food. All right. Well, I guess I can get over you guys dissing me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, I I do feel bad, and Dan and I just finished um watching a movie. A movie.
SPEAKER_02You can finish the sentence, correct?
SPEAKER_01I couldn't remember what the movie was called. Oh, my assprints still here.
SPEAKER_02Are you guys askprints still here? Oh, yeah, dude. We nestled back in like Legos. It felt great. I even made a little pop sound when I sat down.
SPEAKER_05I you know, we need we need to find that little uh pajama, like threesome pajama thing.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, that'd be really that'd really bring us back together.
SPEAKER_02We should keep reminiscing, but we should do it over a movie. And Eric, since you're the last one here, yeah, I feel like you should pick the movie.
SPEAKER_05Well, um I'm honored and I agree I should pick it since you guys freaking sneaking down here without me.
SPEAKER_01Um how about number of I'm excited? I'm excited to hear like what crazy movie Eric would pick, though.
SPEAKER_05Uh I'm getting it. It's been what? It's been months, four months, five months, whatever it's been. Um let's see. What should we do? Should we do water power finally? Or talking about that making a little message. Um well, we have been on a cryptid kick lately, right? Well over over a year we've been talking about cryptids.
SPEAKER_01That's true, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, how about let's do a cryptid movie.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Um I was like, What is the quintessential cryptid movie?
SPEAKER_05Well, I was gonna suggest Sasquatch Sunset, but there's really no dialogue in that almost at all. Tough to talk about. Great movie. How about uh we stick with Bigfoot and we do we do a little Harry and the Henderson's? Oh, I was a chance.
SPEAKER_01Harry and the Handys. Harry and the Handies with some chicken tendies.
SPEAKER_02Let's go. All right, here it is. I got it, it's got it right here. It's oh high quality VHS tape. Look at this, look at this. I'll just pop that right there in that player. Man, it's like old times boys. Oh, do you hear that? Do you hear that thieves song? What?
SPEAKER_03Oh, here we go, here we go.
SPEAKER_01Stabby Stabby, and welcome to Stabby Stabby, a podcast that talks about weird movies, horror movies, exploitation movies, just trash films, and also family films, I guess. Sometimes.
SPEAKER_02Um, you're a bad parent and you just make your kids watch 70s exploitation films. Oh, no, that's true.
SPEAKER_01That's a family film. That's the best kind of parent. Um yeah, and and today uh we're we're back with Greg Scripted Corner Patreon exclusive. So um, if you're if you're a member of our Patreon, you're listening to this, and you're honestly, you're probably the most handsome and prettiest person I've ever seen in my entire life. It's true, it's actually true. Um, but I'm one of your hosts, Greg, and uh uh going old school today. I'm drinking a uh Forest in Maine No Kings Pale Ale. Right. Oh, yummy. It's 4.6 percent. Uses Challenger hops. It's a British style pale ale. That's that's I'm just reading the can at this point. Dan, how are you today?
SPEAKER_02I'm doing good. I'm nestled back into my sweet, sweet couch spot. And today, guys, I'm flying light. I'm just drinking a little lime seltzer. Uh so I will not be drunk in this episode. I'm so sorry. Uh, but I will be very hydrated, so that's maybe I'll try to I'll try to wet my lips a lot so I do that that smacking thing on the microphone so people know how hydrated I am. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, so be like wet ASMR the whole time. Eric, are you there? I'm here. I'm here.
SPEAKER_05I'm drinking a Tonewood Brewing Company Fuego. It has a picture of a campfire at night on the front. It's a like Drag Scripted Corner. Exactly. It looks very similar to the artwork. Um, it is a 6.2% IPA. It's handcrafted in New Jersey. Uh, it's made with Citrus Simcoe and mosaic hops. And I just noticed on the bottom of the can, for some reason, the the expiration stamp or the brood stamp or whatever. It says big apple. I'm not quite sure why. And then the date is October 20th, 2025. No, but it still tastes fine. I don't know. What do I know? It's I mean, it's in a can. How much can it age in a can? Yeah. Beer in a can. Tastes good to me. Anyway, that's enough about my beer. You guys, you guys ready to do some sasquatching in Seattle?
SPEAKER_01I this is exciting because I have barely watched movies since this show ended, by the way. Are you serious? Yeah, I don't watch a lot of I I just I go into little rabbit holes on YouTube and I fall asleep on the couch a lot. I just yeah, I don't watch too many movies, so I'm excited like get back into Stabby Stabby and and rekindle my my love of trash cinema.
SPEAKER_02Oh man, I I've been watching crazy amounts of movies. I probably watched like four a week, but they've all been new releases that I pick for myself. It's very nice. I've enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I've been new releasing it too. Um did you see there's a 4K transfer of this coming out?
SPEAKER_01I did, and I'm probably gonna buy it. Yeah, why? Because it's Arian Anderson's, and I grew up on this film.
SPEAKER_02All right, that's fair. Uh not why would you buy it? I understand you buy anything. I'm I'm wondering why would this movie get the 4K treatment? I feel like it the copy that I watched was like 720p, and even that was maybe too high death. I want to see this on VHS, you know? Yeah. I want it to be like a little blurry.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. It's uh Kino Lorber. It's a 4K scan of the original camera negatives. That would be interesting to see. Um, one other thing before we get in, just a little home uh housekeeping. Um so there was a TV show. I've never seen it. Do you guys remember this? Nope. So I I thought I saw the film, but I might be remembering the TV show. I I or both. I I really don't remember, but um 70 some episodes.
SPEAKER_0172, yeah.
SPEAKER_05What's insane? Starting in like the early 90s, 91.
SPEAKER_02That's insane. How many plots can you come up with with a bigfoot? It's a lot.
SPEAKER_05That's a lot, a lot of television. And I sent you guys, I don't think you've probably had a chance to listen to it, but the theme song, Digital Institute. Yeah, it's called Your Feet's Too Big, and it's performed by none other than Leon Redbone, and it's amazing. It's amazing. I wish they would have used it in the original film, but uh now I want to watch these 72. Maybe we should rent a cabin in the woods and watch all 72.
SPEAKER_02I agree. I'd I might go insane. So you guys will have to strap me to the chair and take my eyes open.
SPEAKER_00Down, you just too much feet. Your feet's too big. Don't watch because your feet's too big. Can't you use because your feet's too big? I love because your feet's too big.
unknownOh, your feet's too big.
SPEAKER_01All 72 episodes apparently are available on Tubi, so there you go. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Do you think they have a very special episode of Harry and the Hendersons where like Harry finds a little baggie of marijuana, you know, and like does hard drugs.
SPEAKER_01I hope so. I would love to see a drug Bigfoot episode. Oh, episode 18 of season one is called Harry and the Cheerleaders. So I pretty sure I know what I'm saying. Watch out.
SPEAKER_02Should we dive into this movie? Is the time? Is the time?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. It's probably time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, let's let's do this.
SPEAKER_00He is hidden in the forest. Eluded hunters, baffled scientists, and remained a mystery until the Henderson bumped into him. What is it? It's a major discovery.
SPEAKER_03Join the pasta maker.
SPEAKER_00Shit.
SPEAKER_05All right, so this this week on a very special Stabby Stabby, we're gonna talk about 1987's Harry and the Hendersons, directed by William Deere.
SPEAKER_01William Deer. He he he was a deer of my heart with the films he created as a child or when I was a child, wrote The Rocketeer, directed this, obviously, directed Angels in the Owlfield, directed Time Writer, The Adventures of Lyle Swan, which I didn't see until a few years ago when I showed it at a movie marathon, but that was awesome. Remember that movie, guys? I don't know. I don't know if I was there for that one. It was um, what's his name from uh tremors, Fred Ward. He like goes back in time on his motorcycle and he has to find like an amulet or something. Oh I have no memory of this deal. It was it was good. It was I love it. Was it later in the evening? I think it was early. Oh, okay. But I don't remember specifically, yeah. But yeah, so he directed a lot of pretty cool stuff. Um, so good on you, whatever your name was, William Deer. Dear William Deer. Nice.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I did read uh he had done an Amazing Stories, a mummy one that I I actually remember that up that episode. It was awesome. And Spielberg um had produced amazing stories. I think it was Amblin. So that was part of why he was selected to to make this film.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's right. Yeah, when the Amblin like logo came up, I was like, interesting. I mean the the costume for Harry is incredible.
SPEAKER_05Yes, yeah. So that's our boy Rick Baker. Uh yeah. Yeah. So he won the Academy Award for American Wearwater London and Oh, are they gonna say for for his portrayal of Harry?
SPEAKER_01No. Well well let's talk about who portrayed Harry when we when we get to Harry, but yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Well, I mean, this this won an Oscar for best makeup.
